Back to the Garden: A 10-Day Devotional

DAY 4 OF 10

What Season Is It?

When it comes to gardening, it is important to know what crops grow in what season. Tomatoes are one of those fruits that need heat to grow. So, expecting a tomato to grow to its fullest potential in freezing conditions would be unrealistic.

Solomon tells us, that everything has a season. In other words, timing is everything! There may be things you might have expected to see bloom in your life by now, but it just might not be the season for it. There are many things I am believing God for, some of which require me to know how to manage money well. Although I know God can make anything happen however and whenever He sees fit, the reality is if I don't learn to fix certain habits, they will run with me everywhere I go.

It's like what we discussed on Day 1 with the rotten fruit, some of that fruit may have rotted because it sprouted too soon or stayed in your garden for too long. Sometimes we must plant seeds in different seasons and see the growth in another season. We must also know when to pick the fruit from our garden as well.

There may come a time when your children reap the harvest during a season of their life that you might have planted the seeds for in another season during your life. That is a great way to remind ourselves that this life is far beyond us, it is for those around us as well. If you think about full-time farmers who supply our grocery stores, they do not just plant seeds and maintain gardens for their families to eat, they do it for thousands of people to eat.

If God has you in a season of waiting, you must pick the fruit of patience out of your garden. When you find yourself in disagreement with someone, it’s time to pick the fruit of gentleness and self-control. You may even be in the season of working with difficult people, let’s go to our gardens and pick the fruit of love. Sometimes, we may even have to pick fruit from our garden to share with others like faith, to lead people to salvation.

I pray that you see the importance of acknowledging what season you're in as well as evaluating the fruit you have so that you can use it. Remember, God gifted us with the fruits of the Spirit so that we can utilize them in our everyday life.

Reflect

  • What season are you currently in right now?

If you are unsure, take this time to pray, asking God what season He currently has you in and how you can navigate through it properly.
