Daily Bible Reading – August 2023, God’s Saving Word: EncouragementSample
August 18
Introduction
In this concluding chapter, Paul asks for prayers and speaks of the obligation to work and lead an orderly life. He concludes the letter with a benediction for peace.
Scripture Reading
2 Thessalonians 3:1-18
Today's Key Verse: 2 Thessalonians 3:5
May the Lord lead you into a greater understanding of God's love and the endurance that is given by Christ.
Reflect
What is Paul's prayer for himself and his co-workers? What is his prayer for the community of believers? According to verses 6-10, how does Paul describe the way he and his companions worked? What does he say about those who refuse to work? What does he admonish the community of believers to do (verse 15)? Have you ever felt tired or weary from "doing good"? If so, what do you do to renew your strength?
Pray
Holy God, you are our source of peace. Continue to lead me day by day into a greater understanding of your love and the endurance that is given by Christ. When trials come my way, grant me patience and endurance, and renew my strength so that I do not tire of doing good. In your holy name, I pray. Amen.
Tomorrow’s Reading
