The Way Out of AnxietySample
As we begin this Bible plan, let’s take a moment to recognize a few facts:
- Anxiety is real and can be debilitating
- You can love God and have anxiety at the same time
- There is absolutely no shame in seeking help when you feel trapped in worry
God’s designed us to live in a community. He didn’t create us for a life of asceticism or isolation but for a life of relationship and connection.
If you’re going through a season of anxiousness, seek the Lord because He is a God who loves you and listens to your heart's cries. But also reach out to those you trust because God has placed them in your path for a reason.
In today's Bible reading, we see that when Jesus went to the Garden of Gethsemane before a tremendously intense period, He called His disciples to pray with Him. Of course, we also see in Scripture there were times when Jesus withdrew by Himself to pray. But maybe when He invited His friends to sit in the garden with Him, He was demonstrating that it is okay to reach out.
God has given us friends, as well as trained counselors, therapists, and psychiatrists, to help us deal with anxiety. By accepting their help, you’re not any less of a Christian. In fact, by accepting their help, you're using the talents and skills God has invested in them.
Your Heavenly Father sees all you go through. Turn to Him because He longs for you to find rest in the shadow of His wings. And turn to the people He has put in your path, whether friends or professionals. Remember, you’re not alone, and you don’t have to do this alone.
Reflect
Have I bought into the misconception that I can’t love God and have anxiety at the same time? Is shame keeping me away from my Abba Father, although He welcomes me exactly the way I am? Do I see others as vessels God can use to help me through my anxiety?
Lean In
Father God, I praise You that even in the darkness, You see me. Father, thank You that You have placed people in my path who can help me navigate this season in my life. I pray for the gift of vulnerability to let trusted people into my story. Thank You, Lord, that healing and wholeness come from You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
