Stressed Out

DAY 9 OF 15

It was a beautiful step of faith. Jesus came out to the boat the disciples were in, walking on the water. He identified Himself in a powerful way—as the “I Am” (Matthew 14:27). Peter saw what Jesus was doing and wanted to join Him. Peter was trusting that the same power that enabled Jesus to walk on the water would enable him to do the same thing. What great, great faith. Our lives would be transformed if we believed what Jesus said is true. Like this incredible statement: “Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father” (John 14:12).

We can do even greater things than Jesus? With His Spirit who lives in every follower of Christ, we can! Wow. For a few moments, Peter had tremendous faith. He believed in Jesus and put action to it. He took some steps on the water. But then he started to notice the waves and wind around him and he got scared. And in his fear, he started to fall. When we take our eyes and hearts off the truth that Jesus declares is true about us, and we start to look around at other people to get our identities filled, we too will fall. May we ground our lives in what God says is true about us, and walk confidently in it.

Lord, teach us to ground our lives firmly in Your truth. We want to be water walkers—and even more.

About this Plan

Stressed Out

Most of us feel stressed out. A lot of us have been pushed to our mental, emotional, and physical limits. So much of life is bigger than we are—it’s out of our control. Life can leave us feeling helpless and weighed down. But being stressed out is not how God wants us to live. We’ll look at what God wants us to do with the stress we feel.
