Bible Characters Who Fulfilled Their Destiny: And How You Can Do the Same

DAY 3 OF 10

Abraham

God planned for Abraham to become ‘the father of us all’ (verse 16). God made him the father of many nations–that includes you and I! Because we believe by faith in Jesus, we are considered descendants of the figurehead of faith, Abraham. But Abraham had to pass a very difficult test. He had to hold on to his faith in a dry and barren time. He was promised at the age of 75 years that he would receive a child. He then waited twenty-five years for that promise to come to pass. Can you imagine the anguish and turmoil in waiting so long for a precious child to arrive?

Although Abraham initially wavered in his obedience by assuming God’s silence was a sign that he should take matters into his own hands (by sleeping with his servant Hagar, to produce Ishmael), God actually allowed Abraham to ‘prove’ his faith later in his story. God asked something of Abraham that was counterintuitive. After waiting all that time for Isaac, God now asked Abraham to sacrifice his son. He almost offered up Isaac on a stone altar, believing that God could bring the dead to life. His faith that his lineage would continue was steadfast — and in the end, he fulfilled that destiny.

Reflective Question:

In what areas of your life have you started to take matters into your own hands as Abraham did? Ask the Holy Spirit to highlight any ways in which you have been walking by sight instead of by faith.

Prayer:

Pray today that your faith would be unwavering so that you can walk into your calling.

Father, thank You that You call the things that do not exist as though they did. I want to have the same faith; believing that You will give me what You have promised to give me. Thank you that I have been adopted into Your family by faith. Now I will run my race with faith, without slowing down, without taking matters into my own hands, doing whatever you ask of me, even when it appears counterintuitive.

Amen.

About this Plan

Bible Characters Who Fulfilled Their Destiny: And How You Can Do the Same

Within us is a great desire to fulfill some kind of destiny. Learn from Joseph, Ruth, Esther, David, Solomon and Rahab, who all had a calling on their lives that ended in victory. God has given us these stories to learn how to do the same. 'Destiny' isn't a strange concept that falls outside your faith. In your day-to-day life, you are being shaped for His purposes.
