DAY 4 OF 7

All Glory

'Let your kingdom come, and your will be done, here on earth as it is in heaven.'

How is your prayer life these days?

Proverbs 9:10 says 'The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.' Fear in the Bible, however, does not carry connotations of dread or terror. Pastor and author Tim Keller puts it like this:

'To fear the Lord is to be overwhelmed with wonder before the greatness of God and His love. It means that, because of His bright holiness and magnificent love, you find Him ‘fearfully beautiful.’' If we have a right view of God in His holiness, we will approach His throne of grace in reverence and awe. Jesus set some very clear parameters around how to best go before this fearfully beautiful Lord in prayer in Matthew 6:7-13.

'And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him. Pray then like this: 'Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your name. Your kingdom come, Your will be done...'

Jesus pulls His followers aside and in essence says: 'So, you want to know how God likes to be approached? You want to know the kind of prayers that please His holy heart? Well, I’ve spent the better part of eternity seated at His right hand, and here is what I’ve learned. Just pray like this...'

Today, through the sacrifice of Christ, the veil is torn. Might we take this teaching of Jesus to heart and approach the Lord in holy fear and deep reverence, in faith filled simplicity, trusting our lives into His good hands. Praying: 'Your kingdom come, your will be done.' This will please His heart.
