The Grace Marriage

DAY 1 OF 7

DAY 1—Grace Sets YOU Free

God’s love is not based on who we are or how well we perform. As Christians, we can boldly approach the throne of God’s grace because we rely on the perfection of Christ, not the improvement of ourselves. We can rest in the knowledge of His faithfulness. We don’t have to cross our fingers and hope we’re consistent enough to please Him.

When we understand that our forgiveness and right standing before God have already been accomplished by Christ on the cross, we are freed from the need to strive and try to be good enough for God. We cannot earn His grace or forgiveness. But amazing grace and forgiveness is already ours when we trust in the blood of Jesus.

It is finished. Jesus has taken the punishment we deserve. We are under grace. We have access to the Father. We are set free to live, love, and grow. Heavy pressure to perform has been replaced with a light burden, an easy yoke, and a rested soul. As new creations, we rest in His love for us and seek to honor Him with obedience.

Have you received His grace? We are saved by the undeserved sacrifice of Christ. Ephesians chapter 2 sums it up:

“But God is so rich in mercy, and he loves us so much, that even though we were dead because of our sins, he gave us life when he raised Christ from the dead. (It is only by God’s grace that you have been saved!). … God saved you by His grace when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.” (Ephesians 2:4-5, 8-9 NLT).

So confess your sin and trust in the grace of God. Rest in His magnificent mercy toward you. Then extend that same love and grace to your spouse. And the best part about drawing from the well of God’s grace is that it’s a well that will never run dry—it will always be sufficient for you!
