Faith & Love: A One Year Bible Reading Plan - Part 5Sample
In Chapter 25, Jesus is busy telling parables (stories) to help people see who God is. This leads us to the story of the goats and sheep (religious people and followers of Jesus). Here he states that the two will be separated, and then the sheep will be praised for having served him, loved him, given to him as they fed him when he was hungry, given him something to drink when he was thirsty, taking him in as a stranger, clothing him when he was naked and visiting him in prison. But this confuses the goats, and they ask, “Lord, you were never thirsty or hungry or naked or in prison.”
Here Jesus does something massive with the next part of the story: he says that this king says that whatever had been done to “the least of these brothers and sisters of mine” was done to him.
Jesus makes a LOVE statement over all people in this story, namely that God firstly sees all people as valuable and that if we are to love God, we must also love people as this is the natural outflow of loving God.
Do you value people the same way that God values them?
Are you more concerned about righteousness than the welfare of other people?
What is your next step to love people the way Jesus loves them?
