Who Am I Really? A Journey to Discover Your True IdentitySample
According to the King, you are CHOSEN.
- I am God’s witness and servant. I have been chosen to know Him, believe in Him, and understand that He alone is God. ~Isaiah 43:10
- I have been chosen. I will declare the praises of Him who called me out of darkness into His wonderful light. ~1 Peter 2:9
I dreaded the times when my teacher asked team captains to choose players for gym activities. I wasn’t very athletic, so of course, I was one of the last ones to be picked. (It was hard to be one of the last ones standing, waiting to be chosen. It seemed to confirm that which I already felt in my heart—nobody wanted me.)
When I first joined organized sports, I spent a lot of time warming the bench. I remember thinking: If someone would just take a chance on me and give me an opportunity to play, maybe I could improve my skills and become a more valuable player to the team.
Taking a chance on an awkward kid who was uncomfortable in her own skin was highly unlikely.
I wasn’t a fast runner or an aggressive player, but I was a good defender and had a powerful kick. For this reason, the soccer coach started grooming me for the positions of full back and goalie. When I realized the coach had confidence in me, I began believing in myself. Eventually, I became a decent little soccer player.
Sometimes one person believing in you is all you need to live up to your full potential.
Even if man doesn’t believe in you, God does, and He greatly desires to have you on His team. You don’t have to wait to be picked. You are already chosen!
You were hand-picked by God to fulfill a specific role in His bigger plan and purpose. God believes in you. It’s time to start believing in yourself!
Make it Personal:
- Describe a time when you felt rejected or left out. How did it make you feel?
- Name the people in your life who have believed in you and helped you become a better person.
- How does it feel to know you have been chosen by God?
Action Step:
Write one of the following Scriptures down and post it in a place where you will see it often.
Prayer:
Thank you, Lord, for choosing me to know, love, and serve you. Thank you that I don’t have to pretend to be something I am not because you love and accept me just as I am. Amen.
