Growing in Trust as a Family

DAY 1 OF 4

God Will Do It

I shouldn’t have said that.

I’m too hard on her.

I should push them more.

Uh oh, he has my temper.

Where did she learn to sass like that?

Ugh! Nothing like parenting to send you on the biggest guilt-trip adventure.

Breathe.

We do what we can, but God holds your child. While we wish we could be perfect, could always be there, could handle everything for them . . . we are not God. The earlier both you and your child learn that, the better. It is a far greater gift for them if you teach them to look to the perfect one who remains constant through any earthly disappointment or letdown. Practicing trust in God trumps all.

The one who chose you can be trusted, and he will do this.
1 Thessalonians 5:24 (CEV)

The Lord knows your family heritage of a quick temper, your work and training schedules that interrupt time spent with the family, your fatigue of playing board games and having sticky counters, your anxiety that makes you want to bubble-wrap your kids. And despite all that, God entrusted this child to you. You will fail. God will not. He is the one who keeps your child healthy, makes them holy.

So take another deep breath. God is working in your life and teaching you, and he is working in your child’s life and teaching them. Entrust them to him. Trust his process. Rest in his power and goodness.

Watching the Lord speak to them, grow them, change them in areas we fall short? That is the most priceless gift of all.

PRAY

Lord, so often I feel like I’m failing here. Thank you for being the perfect, loving, faithful Father. Please continue to work in my child’s life . . . and mine. Amen.

TIME TO TALK

Conversation starter for kids: Provides you with questions and prompts to facilitate a time of applicable discussion with children to lead them towards knowing God and His Word more deeply.

Question(s): What do you have to trust God to do for you that no one else, not even your parents, can do?

Apply: With younger kids, play hide-and-seek and talk about how God always knows where you are. With older kids, learn something new together and talk about how God is teaching you, too.
