How to Start a HousefireSample
Lean on the Lord
One thing’s for sure, you can lean on the Lord
When we can’t make sense of the circumstances of our life or the world around us, we can stand on the firm foundation of God’s Word, receive His grace and rely on His strength.
Learning to do this is a process. One day at a time. One moment at a time. One step at a time. Sometimes the questions stay unanswered. Sometimes the problem never gets fixed. Sometimes the solutions don’t come and the resolve never happens.
That doesn’t change God’s goodness and His faithfulness to His children. The Bible says that God is love and love never fails. He has never failed you and He never will.
His love gives us the strength to go on. He calls us more than a conqueror and we don’t have to stay stuck in the pains of our past, the rubble of our ruins, the mess of our mistakes. God can and will redeem everything we go through, and it can become a song of victory and a story that brings Him glory.
Leaning into God looks like trusting in His Word, knowing that His promises are always yes and amen. His Word is a firm foundation and those who build their lives on it won’t crumble when (not if) the winds and waves come. His Word is a lamp for our feet and a light for our path; it shows us where we are standing and lights the path before us. It’s life-giving, truth saturated, Holy Spirit inspired, incorruptible and everlasting.
Leaning into God looks like receiving and living in His grace. His grace teaches us to say no to ungodliness and live self-controlled, upright and godly lives. His grace is freely given and freely received. His grace is for everyone - the ones who “have it all together” and the ones who are trying to figure out which way to turn next. The lonely, the broken, the outcast. We all need His grace.
Leaning into God looks like relying on His strength and not our own. He shows Himself strong on behalf of those whose hearts are fully committed to Him. His joy is our strength and His strength is perfected in our weakness. We can do all things through Christ who gives us strength! Nothing is impossible.
As we navigate life and all of its uncertainties, highs and lows, God tells us in His Word to trust Him and not lean on our own understanding. When we lay down our own need to understand and follow Him on the narrow path with childlike faith, we can know that He always has our best interest in mind and that He will work all things together for our good.
