Garbage In, Garbage Out
Have you ever set foot in a city dump? There’s trash everywhere, and suddenly you feel dirty. You immediately wonder where all that garbage could have come from. Lies are the same way. They suddenly appear seemingly out of nowhere and pile up. Before you know it, you're convinced that your life is a disaster.
God revealed to me some nonsense that I had unknowingly believed. I was standing at the outskirts of an African city dump when I noticed cows eating garbage in a trench. God’s voice was loud and clear as He said, "Garbage in, garbage out." When I saw those cows in the dump, His truth made me realize I'd been swallowing some lifelong lies that were hindering my spiritual growth.
I gazed up to the sky, filled with the Holy Spirit's conviction, and asked God to reveal where the falsehoods had conquered me. Following that, I saw how the shame of my past prevented me from sharing my faith and giving my testimony. Later that day, I shared my testimony to a group of African ladies under a small, scraggly tree … in the middle of the city dump.
When you are in denial, God will reveal it to you. Allow God to strengthen your truthfulness in order to expose the lies you’ve believed. When you live in a state of peace and freedom from fear, you can establish a new command center to resist those lies that you face on a regular basis.
“Belief overflows to behavior. First, we need to change what we believe. When we truly change what we believe, we’ll gladly change how we behave.” –Craig Groeschel
Take some time to reflect on the garbage you've consumed. Don’t put up with denial any longer. The lies you've ingested will fade away after you've been exposed to God’s truth. Furthermore, never withhold anything from God. He doesn't withhold His goodness from you. He yearns to show you compassion and is abundant in kindness. (Isaiah 30:18) God desires a free life based on the reality of who He is and what He says about His children. Continuing to tell lies only entertains the guilt which leads us to live foolish lives. Lose the lies; Gain God’s truth!
