Lessons From the Book of Job

DAY 5 OF 5

Is God Enough for You?

Throughout this plan, we’ve seen that God is always close to us, even on life’s hardest days – we just sometimes forget that truth.

So as we wrap up this study plan about Job and his amazing integrity and deep faith, be encouraged… because at the heart of Job’s story is a simple principle that you can put into practice today.

And it’s this: Job wanted God more than anything.

It was communion with God that Job wanted most of all. You can sense his relief after he is finally challenged by God. Job says:

I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.

You asked, “Who is this that obscures my plans without knowledge?” Surely I spoke of things I did not understand, things too wonderful for me to know.

You said, “Listen now, and I will speak; I will question you, and you shall answer me.”

My ears had heard of you but now my eyes have seen you.

Therefore, I hate myself.” (Job 42:1–6)

We all have a hierarchy of values – and whatever sits at the top of that list will serve as your God.

It'll determine how you organise your life. It will even govern your emotions – you can see how Job’s emotions change when God speaks.

So, may we strive to be more like Job and stand strong when the storms come and the winds blow because we have built our lives on the rock.

One of the main themes of Job is obviously: Bad things do happen to good people.

But as we wrap up, consider this: there’s another complex argument being formed here. Can man love God for simply who He is?

Satan said basically every being has his own interests at heart; if God tortures him enough, he will curse God to His face.

But Job proved that God is enough. No matter what happens – no matter what hell we find ourselves in – God is enough.

So, is God enough for you today? When the world turns against you when tragedy strikes. Is God enough in your life?

Take a moment to pray:

Father, help me see that you are enough for me – today and every day. Help me trust you and follow you through life’s joys and sorrows, and put you at the top of my values.

About this Plan

Lessons From the Book of Job

The Book of Job is a wild story – a cosmic wager between God and Satan over the fate of a God-loving, good-hearted man, Job. But what can this ancient story teach us today? Well, at its heart is a simple lesson: bad things do happen to good people. Even to people who love God. So, how do you respond when tragedy strikes?
