Discover Jesus as the Standard for MasculinitySample
Day 1 Jesus Is a Man of Discipline
The first followers of Jesus are known as disciples. The word 'disciple' comes from the root word discipline. Discipline means a calling to soundness of mind, moderation, and self-control. A disciple's life will be marked by the ability to give up immediate pleasure for a greater goal.
Jesus demonstrates discipline throughout His life on earth. He enters thirty years of preparation. During this time, Jesus lives in obscurity without the title of Rabbi or Teacher. He was a dedicated son and a committed workman long before launching His public ministry.
The cross is central to the mission of Jesus and is likewise central in the life of anyone who chooses to follow Him. Jesus instructs men to "Deny yourself, pick up your cross and follow me." Discipleship isn't free; there is a cost involved. The cost for Jesus was the cross. The cost for you will be the same.
Jesus stated that a servant is not above his master. We will walk a road of discipline and self-denial on our way to becoming the man He calls us to be. We use discipline for our benefit and what it provides in our transformation process. Being a strong spiritual man is about the process of growth, development, and maturity. Growth occurs by who we become through the process of transformation.
Every athlete disciplines their body so they may obtain the prize. The transformation occurs through training. View your commitment to follow Jesus as a journey of training for transformation.
