How to Overcome LustSample
The enemy will use your passions against you because he knows that God has a purpose for your life. Your passion should not control you; you should control them. Our sexuality is a gift from God, you should not deny it, nor should you be ruled by it. God’s will for you is to possess your passions.
As humans, we are made in the image and likeness of God. And, His desire is that we would possess our vessel with honor.
In this short plan, we will learn two ways to overcome lust. But, before that, let’s quickly talk about obsessive love. Obsessive love is when someone becomes possessive of you. Here are six characteristics that will help you identify obsessive love:
- When someone cannot live without you.
- When a person demands unreasonable amounts of your time.
- When a person ignores other aspects of their life just to be with you.
- When a person shows jealousy toward any activity that competes for your attention.
- When a person constantly checks up on you or stalks you (at work, home, with friends, etc.).
- When a person begins with intense emotions, flattery, and attention, but it slowly turns into an unhealthy possessiveness of you.
If you know someone that shows any of the above characteristics, run. Obsessive love is not healthy, it is not God’s love, and it is not God’s plan for you. You have the power to control your feelings, your urges, your lust, your flesh, and your passion with the help of the Holy Spirit.
Let's Pray:
Good and gracious God, thank You for creating me in Your likeness and image. May this reading plan and Your Holy Spirit aid me in doing Your will by overcoming lust, living in sanctification, and honoring You with my life and my body.
