DAY 3 OF 7

A Love Story

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the wicked, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of scoffers; but his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.
(Psalm 1:1-2 ESV)

The Bible contains many love stories. For example, Genesis chapters 21-24 tells a beautiful account of a man named Isaac. Born to aged parents, Isaac had little companionship.

One evening, he went out into his field to meditate. Just imagine a calm, gentle wind caressing his arms as he cogitates. What could Isaac possibly be pondering? Did he remind God of the day he followed Abraham up the mountain to be offered as a sacrifice? Did he chuckle at his mom’s account of why his parents named him Isaac? Did he recount the story his father shared about bargaining with God for the life of his cousin, Lot?

While we don’t know the source of his focus, we do know the outcome. As He took time to meditate in the field, lo-and-behold, his wife, Rebekah, arrived on the scene. Of course, Isaac wasn’t looking for her. In fact, the Bible doesn’t reveal that he had any idea about the arrangement his father made on his behalf. All Isaac knew was that one moment he was meditating on the things of God, and the next, he was love-struck. He fell head-over-heels in love with the woman God hand-picked for him—someone he could be completely vulnerable with, someone who could comfort him after his beloved mother’s death.

What a beautiful testimony of the love God showers upon us when we spend time devoted solely to Him! His love story is never-ending. Today, we have a similar testimony—the love story of our Bridegroom’s love for us. Jesus loves us so much that He is preparing us—His Bride—for His return and our wedding feast with Him.

As “Jesus Is A Love Song” by Karen Clark-Sheard implies, Jesus Himself is indeed a love song, and our relationship with Him is our love story.

Reflection:

Take a journey into the quiet field of your mind, taking time to appreciate God for the things you know He’s done for you. Reflect on times you struggled to endure, yet He came strong on your behalf (2 Chronicles 16:9). Ponder the Scripture(s) you witnessed Him fulfill right before your eyes. Then, with these thoughts in mind, begin to shower Him with heartfelt words of love and adoration as if He performed those incredible feats at this precise moment. Flood His presence with words of adoration, and listen to what He has to say in return. This, my friend, is but a part of your intimate, continual love story.
