Worship and Wisdom Go Hand in Hand

In a world full of opinions and soundbites, it is no surprise that confusion about who or what to follow or the next steps to take exists. These confusions from the verbal noise from social media, opinion heads, commentators, coaches, and even differing pastors can leave us frustrated and craving wisdom and direction.

Wisdom is the correct application of what we know. What we hear and experience forms our understanding of how life should operate or where we should end up. The reality is that no experience or knowledge is as powerful as knowing what to do and practically acting on what we know.

Proverbs 1:7 says that the reverential and worshipful fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Wisdom opens us up to a toolbox of details on your next steps; Worshipful reverence unleashes these details.

I remember a testimony by a member of our church some years ago who came into the Sunday service with questions and needed clarity regarding some steps he needed to take. While worshipping God and ultimately yielding, he said he suddenly felt a release and got the clarity he needed. I know this may sound simple; however, there is great wisdom in having a healthy respect for God.

Taking time to sing praises to God while surrendering to God as the source of wisdom opens us up to God's comfort and directions on the steps to take regarding an issue.

Worshipping God not only connects you to the guidance you need, but it also helps reveal your purpose in life.

Acts 13:2-3 says, "While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, "Set apart for me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them." 3 So after they had fasted and prayed, they placed their hands on them and sent them off."

While Paul and Barnabas worshipped, God revealed their life's purpose as apostles to the gentles. God will speak through His Spirit as we worship Him wholeheartedly.

In Romans 12:1-2, Apostle Paul admonishes us to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God, which Paul added is true and proper worship. Paul continues by eluding that true worship will ignite a transformation as a result of a renewed mind. Paul further states that nonconformity to the world's thinking pattern leads to a transformed mind. As my young daughter says, a changed mind is a recycled mind that allows us to live out wisely God's perfect will.

Knowing your next steps is one thing; acting on them is another. Worship creates emotions that cause our minds to readjust from the noise and motivates us to take actionable steps on God's word. Worshipping God opens the portals of our bodies, minds, ears, and eyes to advance in God's direction.
