Are You Right With God?
How do you know if you’re right with God?
In today’s verse, we see Jesus talking to huge crowds who had been following Him across the countryside. After chasing Him down, they asked, “What shall we do, that we may work the works of God?” (John 6:28)
Isn’t it interesting, thousands of people came to Jesus with essentially the same question we’re still asking today? They wanted to know how to be right with God. After decades as a pastor, here’s what I’ve seen. Spiritually, we all fall into one of four categories in being right with God.
- Secure, but not sure.
- When you’re right with God but lack certainty and peace
- Not sure, and not secure.
- When you’re not right with God and aren’t sure how to get there
- Sure, but not secure.
- When you’re not right with God but think you are because you do “good” things
- Secure, and sure.
- When you have a real relationship with Jesus who makes you right with God
The crowds following Jesus thought the formula was: do the right things to be secure with God. But here’s what Jesus said: “This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He sent” (John 6:29).
That’s it. To be secure and sure starts by believing in Jesus. God doesn’t hand us a to-do list. He writes our names into the Book of Life. No matter where you’re at right now, at the end of our six-day journey, I promise you can be both secure and sure you are right with God!
As you engage with God’s Word:
● What is God saying to me?
● What does it mean to me?
● How can I apply what God is teaching me?
● How can I be specific in prayer today?
After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer.
