Who Am I? Know Self. Know Christ.

DAY 1 OF 4

Who am I? We all must ask ourselves this crucial question and find an accurate answer. On the surface, the answer may seem obvious, not worth taking much time to contemplate, and the pursuit has the potential to turn into a self-focused pursuit which could only lead to a dead end.

Many wise theologians assert that to truly know ourselves well, we must know God well and in order to know God, we must have an accurate understanding of who we are, what we are made of, and who made us. John Calvin, a sixteenth-century theologian observes, “Nearly all wisdom we possess, that is to say, true and sound wisdom, consists of two parts: the knowledge of God and of ourselves” (Calvin’s Institutes. I.1.i). Kevin DeYoung, a modern theologian, puts it this way: “Know God. Know yourself. Know yourself to know your need of God. Know God to know you are not gods.” The more we know God, the more we come to know our great need for Him and His mercy and grace. We learn that we are nothing apart from Him.

This devotional is designed to help you reflect upon God and His love for you. My prayer is that it will aid you in your pursuit of the knowledge of yourself and of God Most High with the ultimate goal of developing a deeper, more devoted, and intimate relationship with Him. If we are to have an authentic, life-giving relationship with the Lord, we need to know Him and our identity in Christ.

Day 2

About this Plan

Who Am I? Know Self. Know Christ.

This plan is designed to help you focus on your relationship with the Lord. Ask the Lord to search your heart as you explore Ephesians 1 and ask questions like the following: “Who am I?” “How do I see myself?” “Where do I find my identity?” “Who does God say I am?”
