Assurance 2: You Are God’s Good Idea

Did you know you are designed to succeed in fulfilling your purpose? You are God’s creation and His purpose for you preceded His design of you.

God is deliberate. Ephesians 2:10, NLT records, “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” Knowing the end from the beginning, God knows the good works we each will complete according to His purpose.

Consider God’s message in Jeremiah 1:5. He appointed Jeremiah to be a prophet before Jeremiah was formed in his mother’s womb. Psalms 139:13-14, NLT reveals God’s active engagement in our design in sharing, “You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex! Your workmanship is marvelous – how well I know it.” Also, in Jeremiah 29:11, MSG God declares, “I know what I’m doing. I have it all planned out – plans to take care of you, not abandon you, plans to give you the future you hope for.”

Consider God’s design of Bezalel and Oholiab, expert craftsmen and artisans responsible for building the sacred tent for worship of God during Moses’ leadership of the Israelites. I marvel at God’s intentionality revealed in Exodus 31:2-6, CEV: “I have chosen Bezalel from the Judah tribe to make the sacred tent and its furnishings. Not only have I filled him with my Spirit, but I have given him wisdom and made him a skilled craftsman….I have appointed Oholiab from the tribe of Dan to work with him, and I have also given skills to those who will help them make everything exactly as I have commanded you…”

What demonstration of God’s specificity in His purpose and design for each of His children! Isaiah 64:8, ESV proclaims, “But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.”

Reflection.

Linking the revelations of Eph 2:10, Psalms 139:13-14, Exodus 31:2-6, and Isaiah 64:8, the message is clear. We, God’s children, are designed by God for good. We are God's good idea!
