THOUGHT OF THE DAY
Reading scripture is life-giving! The question is, are we putting it into practice? Are you simply checking a box off of a list, or are you setting aside time in your day to be with your Creator? Let’s do a thought experiment. If your spouse, significant other, or best friend wants to grow in a relationship, how would you do it? If we limited the time spent in our primary relationships to a few moments a week how strong would those relationships be? Would they be thriving or failing?
Everything we experience from fast food windows to short 10-second videos on our phone, tells us that when we want something we get it immediately. How often do we approach scripture the same way? Do we only come to the scripture as a last resort in our darkest hour longing for a quick answer to a problem?
The Creator of the universe, your Creator, who sustains all of existence at every moment is always inviting you into a deeper relationship with Him through His Word. Reading scripture should be more like a marathon than a sprint. If we started a marathon like it is a sprint, how long would we stay in first place? We should approach scripture consistently, daily, and thoughtfully to build healthy rhythms into our lives.
GUIDED PRAYER
Lord, help me hear Your voice in Your word. Help me cherish the gift that is the scriptures. Help me think on them daily and bring them to mind. Thank You Lord, Your Words are alive in my life and Your Words become a part of who I am. Continue to reveal Yourself to me through Your Word, Your servant is listening; thank You Lord that my spirit, soul and body are open to what Your Word is saying to me today. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
