THOUGHT OF THE DAY
Some days it is easy to walk in love. You know those days: you got the perfect amount of sleep, breakfast was delicious, and the weather is the perfect mix of cool and sunny. These days make it very easy to walk in love. You might even find yourself going out of your way to be kind and generous. Ephesians 5:2 says “and walk in the way of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.”
This verse seems to suggest that we can, and should, live this way every day. But, how can we walk in love on those days when it seems nearly impossible to be loving?
Walking in love might be difficult, especially with certain people. The good news is you have a perfect example in the life of Jesus! Not only can we learn how to “walk the walk” through reading scripture, but also through prayer we can become Christ-like in our love walk. This is not some simple mind trick; you can really become a person whose natural mode is walking in love. Through prayer, we get to know more about the heart of God, and we slowly get transformed into being more like Him.
Today, set aside 10 minutes to pray. Turn on your favourite worship music and get honest with God. What makes it difficult for you to walk in love? Before you pray, remember that God loves you, and today, you can spend time with Him. Hebrews 4:14-16 will help us build our faith on the fact that God is an accessible God.
GUIDED PRAYER
Lord, help me walk in love with those around me. Help me be more like You at my job, in my community, and with my family. Show me the ways I fail to love people and teach me how to love the people in my life more effectively. Father, thank You that You loved us while we were still sinners and very far from You. Thank You for pouring out Your love onto us by sending Jesus. I pray that You will reveal Your love to me in a deeper way so that I may love others more. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
