Year of the Bible: Part Eleven of Twelve

DAY 24 OF 30

Born Again to a Living Hope

Peter is clear in his writing that God's mercy has brought the believer in Jesus to a living hope—hope that is presently assuring each of us that our future inheritance in Jesus is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading. That assurance is a reason for great rejoicing.

Peter also explains that this future is often purified by various trials and difficulties. Anyone who has walked with Jesus can confirm that they have encountered a difficult circumstance or season after committing their loyalty to Jesus. Paul assures us that these difficulties are common and God-protected; they are meant to prove to us that our faith in Jesus is genuine, not simply a ticket out of hell.

Quality teachers instruct their students in ways that allow the students to master the subject, not merely pass a test. Providing a test gives the student clarity on how well they have mastered the material presented. God desires that each of us own a "pure" faith—a faith that has been "through the fire" so that it will sustain us in every season of life.

Question: How has your faith in Jesus been tested? Recall those times of testing and then record the growth you received by passing that test.

Prayer: Father, thank you for the assurance of an incredible future. Thank you, also, that the tests I have experienced have increased my trust and confidence in You. Grant me eyes firmly fixed on Jesus, the author and perfector of my faith.
