Don't Settle for a Copy

DAY 5 OF 5

What To Do After Identifying A “Copy”?

During the period of separation from a “copy”, it is very important that you focus on your spiritual life: fasting, praying and studying the Word of God. Surround yourself with wise and godly men and women who may help you during this process and cover you with their prayers. Stay away from people who do not bear the fruit of the Spirit (see Galatians 5:22-23). Depending on the circumstances of the separation, some people may need professional help from a psychologist or other mental health therapists. A spiritual counselor such as a pastor may be helpful.

You have to cut ties with the “copy”. This may include disposing of gifts, cleansing from social media and messengers, and deleting telephone contacts.

Be careful with your words. Stating untruths that may tie you psychologically to a “copy'' can obstruct your emotional freedom. For example, saying things like "he was everything to me" or "I’ll never find someone as good as her" are exaggerations that might cripple your progress.

Close the door. Don’t give the Enemy any territory in your life or any opportunity to trick you into backsliding. This could include stopping frequenting places you visited on dates with the “copy”, distancing yourself from mutual friendships that may give you nostalgia and serve as a hindrance for your inner healing.

Perhaps your feelings are making you doubt what God has already told you and what you should do. You must bear in mind that rejecting God’s will by being with a confirmed “copy” is likened to the sin of idolatry. Any person or thing that you would position ahead the heavenly Father as number one in your life becomes an idol. The Messiah even considered loving parents or children more than Him as a disqualifier. How much more if the person you are putting above Him is a “copy” without any blood relation!

Stay focused during this time of healing and restoration and steer clear from any “copies” that might arise to take advantage of you and deviate you from doing God's will. Guard your heart with prayer because your “original” may be very close to arriving, seeing as you have now made space for them to enter the scene. Remember that each day you spend with a mediocre “copy” is one less day that you enjoy the happiness, fullness and blessings that accompany your “original”. Obedience brings blessings that will pass down from generation to generation!

Day 4

About this Plan

Don't Settle for a Copy

The main concept of this 5-day devotional deals with practical guidance in identifying one’s ideal spouse with the help of God. The title "original" is used here to represent the best possible option as a lifelong companion, and the terms “copy” or “copies” describe all other possible partner options. The authors' objective is aimed at single, divorced or widowed people who intend to marry or remarry and fulfill the grand purpose that God has for their life.
