DAY 3 OF 3

We live in a “filtered” world: Almost every picture or selfie we see or post has a veneer of perfection plastered on top. But we all know a filter doesn’t produce real change: it’s just a superficial fix. When we look in the mirror, we’re still the same person.

Unfortunately, some of us think of following Jesus as a filter. We want an instant, feel-good fix to our problems. But journeying with Jesus isn’t like that. We still struggle with sin and temptation. Life doesn’t instantly get easier.

But when we follow Jesus, we receive the Holy Spirit who actually empowers us to change! That change isn’t as simple as a quick filter because it’s authentic. It takes time. And when we surrender to the power of the Holy Spirit, over time, He changes us so that we actually transform into the people God made us to be.

As you read this Psalm, make it a personal prayer from you to God. Ask for the Holy Spirit to guide, direct, and transform you into the person God made you to be!

Read Psalm 143:7-12

Reflection Questions:

  1. What emotions do you think the psalmist was feeling throughout the psalm? Can you relate to any of those emotions? Have you ever felt free to express those emotions to God? Take some time to pour out your feelings to God. He can handle all of them–even the difficult ones. His presence is the perfect place to reveal the depths of your heart.
  2. Think about a struggle or challenge you’re currently facing. Maybe it’s an ongoing temptation, a big decision, or a difficult situation at home or school. Take some time to pray verse 10 back to the Holy Spirit. Look for ways He’s leading and guiding you in the week ahead.

About this Plan

The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity who comes to live in believers. The Spirit guides, empowers, and transforms us as we live out our salvation by following Jesus. This Bible Plan is part 6 of 8 — designed to go along with Feed’s “Foundations” small group series.
