Twelve Names of Christ for Christmas

DAY 10 OF 12

THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD

We celebrate the arrival of Jesus, Who came to bring the light of life into the world lost in darkness. Isaiah 9:2 prophesied, “The people which sat in darkness saw a great light,” foretelling this coming of Jesus.

We are the ones who needed that light. The darkness of our souls overwhelmed us. Mankind was lost in that gross darkness. Then Jesus came.

He declared three times in the book of John:

“I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life” (John 8:12).
“I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness” (John 12:46).
“As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world” (John 9:5).

Jesus called us out of darkness and gave us of His light, and for a purpose—that we would share that light with others, to draw them to the Light of the World Himself.

For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light. (Ephesians 5:8)
But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should show forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. (1 Peter 2:9)
But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin. (John 1:9, 1 John 1:7)

Celebrate! The Light of the World has come! His name is Jesus!

Kids’ Corner

Cut strips of red and green construction paper 1”x8”. On each strip, write portions of the verses listed above, including Jesus' name: The Light of the World. Decorate with markers or glitter glue and let dry. Then loop the strips together, forming a chain. Display as a reminder that Jesus is the Light of the World. Take a small candle to a dark place and talk about how the light dispels the darkness and how our lives are to do the same. Sing, This Little Light of Mine. Close with a prayer, asking the LORD to show you how to share His light and love with others this Christmas.
