Parasha Minute: Genesis / Breisheet

DAY 28 OF 31

"God Provides His Sacrifice"

Avraham (Abraham) called the place, Adonai Yi’reh will see to it. Adonai provides. God had provided all this time. The ultimate provision was his seed and heir, Yitz’chak (Isaac). To honor Adonai, Avraham would burn offerings that would fill the sky and reach the heavens. Adonai had asked for another offering. “Take your son, your only son, whom you love and offer him as a burnt offering.” As they approached, Yitz’chak wondered aloud where the sacrifice was. Avraham assured, “God will provide himself the lamb for a burnt offering.”

As Avraham readied the altar and raised his hand to slay his son, an angel stopped him, “Don’t lay your hand on the boy. For now I know that you are a man who fears God, because you have not withheld your only son from me.” Abraham’s test was an indication of how Adonai willingly would give His only begotten, Yeshua, as the sacrifice lamb. Points to Ponder: Do we have an “Yitz’chak” that we need to lay at the altar? Once we retire the struggle, God will surprise us with deep peace, release, and unusual blessings.
