A Peaceful Season: A 5-Day Bible Plan on Having Peace During the Holiday Season

DAY 1 OF 5

What is Peace?

In light of the holiday season, it is essential to protect your peace. Although holidays bring us fun and joy—they can bring stress and disruption.

According to the New Oxford American Dictionary, peace is freedom from disturbance; tranquility. In Hebrew, peace is Shalom—meaning wholeness, completeness, prosperity, and harmony.

Peace is good for our mind, body, and soul. It calms our racing thoughts, restores our bodies, and refreshes our souls. Peace is a gift. God is the granter of peace. Those who desire peace can find it in God. He is Jehovah Shalom—the God of Peace. Obtaining peace is both spiritual and practical.

From a spiritual standpoint, to obtain peace, we must place our attention on the Peace Giver. Obtaining peace is done by reading Scripture, praying, or worshiping God. In scripture, the Prophet Isaiah said, “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you (Isaiah 26:3 NLT)!”

From a natural standpoint, to obtain peace, we can take steps and make decisions to bring peace. For example, if an environment is hostile and chaotic, we can leave and find a quiet place. If we are around people who disturb us, we can choose to stop being in their company.

In this five-day Bible plan, we will talk about obtaining peace through contentment, keeping the Sabbath (resting), getting therapy, and spending time with the people you love in your community.
