Women of the Bible

DAY 26 OF 30

Lydia

Proverbs 31 speaks of a godly woman, one who fears the Lord. The verses detail her entrepreneurial spirit (vs. 13-16), her faith (vs. 30), and her hospitality (vs. 20-22). When we encounter Lydia, we see these same godly characteristics. We know that she was a businesswoman, a worshipper of God, and she invited missionaries to stay in her home. The most crucial piece of information we are given is that she was a worshipper of God. In Lydia, we see a woman open to what God wanted to teach her and how He wanted her to respond.

Paul was rerouted, by The Holy Spirit, in verses 7-12 to Philippi. He spoke with Lydia and shared with her the gospel message, and Lydia was saved (vs. 14). God's Word states that God opened Lydia's heart to hear what Paul said. God opened Lydia's heart; she received His Word, Truth, and grace. Following that conversion, Lydia was baptized- with her entire household! Then, she opened her home to Paul and his team. Lydia is a beautiful picture of believers: saved by faith in Jesus, responding in obedience, welcoming others, and experiencing true fellowship.

1. What is The Lord teaching you in this season?

2. Who has The Lord placed in your life to teach you?

3. Who are you teaching?

Prayer: Lord, open our hearts to you and what you want us to know. Please help us to walk in obedience and fellowship.

About this Plan

Women of the Bible

Eve and Mary may be the most well-known in Scripture, but the Bible is chock-full of women with rich character, bold faith, and powerful testimonies. Join us as we briefly study 30 “Women of the Bible” and learn about the ways God used them, sustained them, emboldened them, and provided for them. Women have been a part of God’s plan from the Garden of Eden until the present day. We pray your faith is encouraged and strengthened by spending some time getting to know these women’s accounts.
