Refreshed by God

DAY 5 OF 5

PRAYER SAVES TIME

"So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him." Acts 12:5

The early church earnestly prayed for Peter to be freed from prison, and sooner than later the Lord set his beloved son free from his predicament. Like early followers of Jesus, is earnest prayer your default in times of need? Is prayer the primary focus in your decision-making process? Do you rest in the realization that He can be trusted to reveal the way you should go? Do you realize that His truth—though at times counterintuitive—saves you time in the long run? What the Lord is saying may not make sense now, but later, as you look back, it will become clearer.

It is not a cop-out to first pray before you commit; instead, it is a wise filter for decision-making. Our Lord Jesus smiles when His children take the time to save time by waiting on His understanding in prayer. The prayer-less, crazy cycle of overreacting in fear and anger only prolongs the pain, while patient prayer applies heaven’s healing process.

Dear Lord, teach me to pray and to trust You with the process. Help me create a culture of prayer in my life, my family, and my work. I trust You that prayer is my best investment of time and that it saves me time in the long run. I pray for my worry to be replaced by Your peace and my fear by Your love.

Day 4

About this Plan

Refreshed by God

Refreshed By God is taken from Boyd Bailey’s book of encouraging devotionals he penned in 2020. When the world felt upside-down from the Covid-19 pandemic, the Lord was giving him words to encourage, challenge, and sustain us...in times of chaos and for everyday living. It is our prayer that you are refreshed by His Spirit each day of this 5-day reading plan.
