DAY 4 OF 4

Successfully Plan and Execute Your Time with God

In the last three days, we discussed how Jesus modeled daily conversations with God and why it was necessary for Him to have those conversations. Now it’s time to plan your date! All the points we read over the last few days don’t mean much if we don’t take steps to implement them in our lives. The best way to do that is to create a plan and follow it.

Creating a plan that works for you is essential to following through with it. Consider your lifestyle. You probably don’t want to plan your Divine Date at 6 am if you work the night shift. Figure out what time you will have at least 15 minutes by yourself during your day. This will require getting up a little earlier than usual for most of us. Don’t worry. God will restore the sleep you think you are going to miss.

Once you’ve figured out the time, decide where you will hold your date. As any good real estate agent knows, it is all about location, location, location. Finding that special spot where you will meet with God is critical for getting the most out of your date. I currently use my closet, but I’ve used a spare bedroom, kitchen table, and bathroom in years past. Perhaps a place in your home is not feasible. I worked with a woman who used to nap in her car during her lunch break. She could nap in her car because she found solitude there. The same solitude that would make a perfect setting for your Divine Date.

Next, you can determine the activities you will do on your date. What scriptures will you read? Will you use a devotional book, app, or some other prompt? Will you listen to music? Are you going to journal? You don’t have to have the same activities each time. Spice it up a bit!

Once you have created the plan, it’s time to execute it. It may be difficult initially, but you can do it because you aren’t doing it alone. You have a Helper to guide you through the rough spots. The Holy Spirit is there to wake you up when you want five more minutes of sleep, and He will lead you to the perfect scripture that speaks to your soul.

Guess what? Once you finish today’s reading, you will have read scripture for four days. You will be on your way to a habit in seventeen more days. God called you to this devotional for a reason. He has a plan and a purpose for your life. He calls your name and waits for you to say, “Speak, Lord, for your servant hears.”

What things could keep you from following through with daily divine dates, and how can you overcome them?

About this Plan

Time Alone With God A 4-Day Plan by Donna Pryor

Spending time alone with God sounds simple, but a world filled with distractions and demands can make it challenging. For many of us it becomes a to-do list item. If we get to it, we get to it. If we don’t, we don’t. This 4-day plan will help reshape your thoughts on time alone with God and elevate it from the to-do list to the must-do list.
