Soul Mission: Determine Your Purpose for LivingSample
Psalm 8, according to the New Testament, finds its ultimate fulfillment in the Second Man, the Last Adam, the Lord Jesus Christ. In His incarnation (Heb. 2) and His eventual rulership of this earth (1 Cor. 15:35–49; Eph. 1:22), Jesus reestablishes what humanity was supposed to be. God has put all things under His feet. Jesus is the Man for all mankind, from the first to the last of all humanity. Eventually, those who have put their trust in Him will become like Him and function like Him.
How? Notice the possessive pronoun in Psalm 8, “O LORD, our Lord.” The Creator God of glory can be our own covenant God of salvation. In this way, all our small accomplishments can shine, share and show off His splendor to the world. By relating to Him as our God, He pervades our fallen humanness and earthbound clay-ness and restores us to visibly display the glory of the invisible God.
Therefore, whatever you do, do all to the glory of God. Make God’s glory your soul’s sole purpose, your ulterior mission. Make God look good in all your roles, relationships, and responsibilities.
In your family:
- If you are a parent, be the best parent you can be, displaying God’s glory to your children.
- If you are a teenager, you are to carry the honor of God in your home, school, and relationships.
- If you are a housewife, God values your role in the family. Make God look good there.
In your vocation:
- If you are a teacher, you are to be the best teacher you can be, for you are a royal display of God’s glory.
- If you are a doctor, you must be the best you can be, for you are wearing God’s dignity in your surgical attire.
- If you are an engineer, businessman, plumber, secretary, mechanic, writer, accountant, whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.
Make God look… great! Through you. Today, tomorrow, for a lifetime. This is our human mission extended and derived from our spiritual passion. Every endeavor must ultimately be judged by whether or not it is an appropriate component of our ultimate purpose.
Making God look great is humanity’s sole mission that must be personalized and translated into your own soul mission.
