Royals Part III: Into ExileSample
Toxic
Have you ever seen someone stuck in a toxic relationship and wondered why they don’t just leave? Maybe you’ve been there yourself. I hope that you’re not experiencing this now. It’s sadly commonplace in our world.
The reason we don’t leave or keep going back to these relationships is they give us a false sense of security, satisfaction, or comfort. The reality is our hearts are extremely good at attaching themselves to things that provide temporary highs even when they destroy us from the inside out. It’s not just relationships; it can be substances, money, power, sex, movies, video games, social media, food, or even our jobs.
Israel is not the exception; Israel is the rule. We are all like Israel. We attach ourselves to things we shouldn’t. They don’t have to be bad things in themselves, but we elevate them to places where they cause us more harm than good.
Unless we hand these things over to God, God will hand us over to these things. There will come a time where everything will come crumbling down. These dependencies will ultimately fail us, and our world will come crumbling down.
Thought Point
Are there any things in your life that you keep going back to, even though you know you shouldn’t? How are you going with this? Do you need to hand it over to God?
Prayer Point
Bring before God anything in your life that has been an ongoing struggle, past or present. Ask Him to deliver you from this and fill you with the love, security and comfort you need.
