Royals Part III: Into ExileSample
The Line of David
I find it incredible and wonderful that, despite Israel and Judah's many failures, when God brings His judgement upon them He still leaves a remnant. Even when Israel and Judah gave up on Him, even in His own judgement upon them, God never gave up on them. I love that even in the midst of the Exile we can read about God blessing the remnant in Judah with an abundance of wine and summer fruit.
Out of this remnant, the Judeans would return and rebuild the Temple and walls of Jerusalem. Out of this, the line of David would continue in the background, no longer ruling but still thriving. Centuries later a man from that line would hear that the woman he was to marry was pregnant. He would hear in a dream that this was the work of the Holy Spirit and he would become the father of the Messiah, Immanuel, God with us.
It's incredible to think that despite the brokenness of all of these men, God still chose to keep this line going and bring His own Son into this line in order to redeem the world. We find it so hard to see what God's plan is in our own lives, but when we see incredible plans like this that God has been working on for centuries, even since the beginning of time, we can have confidence that His plans are good.
Thought Point
How might your life have an impact on this Earth, generations after you have passed away? What plans might God already be starting?
Prayer Point
Ask God to help you follow His plans and purposes for your life. Ask Him to use your life not only to impact this generation but the generations that will come after you.
Scripture
