Be the One

DAY 4 OF 5

It gets messy

In the last devotion, I revealed how Ehud brought God’s judgment upon evil King Eglon in Judges 3. When he plunged a sword into King Eglon’s gut, his intestines oozed out. Gross. That’s actually how Ehud made his impossible, improbable escape! The smell was so bad that the guards thought the king was in the bathroom, and that gave Ehud time to escape.

Serving God can get messy. I’ve been encouraging you to be intentional and help someone in spiritual need. The devil won’t like this. It’ll likely get messy when you talk to your friend about their sinful brokenness. They might get offended and spew hurt/hate just as foul as King Eglon’s spilled intestines. Vivid picture, but that’s real.

Don’t let the possibility of messiness keep you from doing what is right. Focus on helping your friend escape the stink of sin and walk in freedom.

Here’s the amazing truth. God will guide you. God will help you. And God will give you what to say if your friend doesn’t respond well to your witness. “But make up your mind not to worry beforehand how you will defend yourselves. For I will give you words and wisdom” (Luke 21:14,15).

You have nothing to fear. The Creator of the universe will guide your words. Jesus loves the person you love and hurts for your friend who is hurting. He simply needs you to trust and to be a messenger of mercy to your friend who is hurting. Will you go?
