Finances in MarriageSample
Aligning on financial goals can be difficult if you and your spouse have different priorities and values regarding finances. Thankfully, God gives us instruction on how to navigate that in Ephesians 5:21 when He says, “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” This Scripture talks about laying down your desires and submitting to your spouse’s desires to strengthen your relationship in a way that honors God rather than the desires of your flesh. Your goal with finances should not be to get your own way but to be united as husband and wife in the stewardship of the finances God gave you.
Take a moment to think of one way your spending has frustrated your spouse and one way their spending has frustrated you. Write them down, and then pray into those frustrations asking God to help you release your desires for the good of your unity. Then ask God to give you the grace to understand and respect your spouse’s desires rather than allowing them to frustrate you.
