Introduction

In the first Spirit, Soul & Body reading plan, attention is placed on grasping the three components of our human being, how each part makes up the whole and gives expression to the new life we receive in Jesus Christ through his finished work.

In this plan we consider what the word tells us about how perfect and complete our spirit is now as it will ever be. How we are, as Jesus is, living treasure in an earthen vessel, not required to strive in an effort to obtain more from God and how we experience the ongoing renewal of our minds and aligning our bodies to this truth. It is God’s Spirit who evokes our own spirit to release life through into the physical body and our emotions.

We established previously that there are characteristics, personality, natural and visual differences that make each person unique but, the fundamentals of every person are the same:

You and I have a Body - in which we are physically present and feel physically.

You and I have a Soul - which is not visible to sight but in which is our perception, intellect and faculties of conscience and emotion.

You and I have a Spirit - our innermost being, the deepest depth of the person—the very life in us.

You don’t need to have completed part 1 before journeying with this, however, it does inform the direction of all Spirit, Soul & Body reading plans.

Reflection

Write down the biggest surprise you can remember getting in your life.

Now, write down an everyday-experience of surprise.

Lastly, write down what surprises you from the scriptures you read a few moments ago.

Introspection

If you read those verses and shared an experience like me, then something has awoken in you or has excited you, or caused you to be inquisitive to ask, “Then what does this mean for everyday living?”

If you didn’t think or feel or respond in that way, don’t worry! There’s no ‘set’ response that every person is meant to have. We are not clones of each other.

What is worth recognising right now for yourself, is what exactly has just changed on your inside as your spirit was touched by the Spirit of God who quickened God’s revelation in you?

You see, the Spirit of God draws out from within us Godly wisdom, interpretation, capacity to share in constant oneness with Him eternal realities and truth. There’s an old saying: "when the spirit of God touches you, the flesh knows it.” For some, the eyes well up with tears of joy, there is laughter or crying, there’s a sensation on the skin of goose-bumps or a feeling of deep relief. This is a physical experience of what is an eternal truth realised on the inside of us. There is only one thing that gets in the way. That’s what the next step is for.

Your Next Step

The one thing that gets in the way is the power of the mind - our will, intellect - what we determine to be our Soul. Do not confuse this as mind-over-matter because it is not that at all. What we are speaking about here is the liberty of the mind to work under right believing; that is, to believe what is true and through surrender to the Lordship of Jesus enable all of life, including our bodies to experience the will of the spirit.
