Prestonwood Worship - Songs Of The People

DAY 1 OF 5

"Songs of the People"

The Lord loves to do new things. His mercies are new every morning. He makes us new creations. He will one day come again and make all things new. It is an overflow of his beauty, majesty, glory, and genius.

And so it would make sense that he would command us to, “Sing new songs.” As though to say, “What I did yesterday is great and all, but I am doing something new in your midst today. So be encouraged by the past and build on its foundation, but I am doing plenty of new things for you to declare today. So get to singing!”

Singing is an expression of our deepest being, because songs take words to new heights and depths of emotion. Songs help us to not just think the truth, but feel the truth - to connect the truth to our hearts and seal it to our souls. And so we tend to mark the seasons of our lives with the soundtracks of those seasons.

So why not mark the seasons of our lives with the glory of God in worship through song? Let God’s church stand and sing to remind ourselves that our God is greater than all the idols of this world that would simply rob us of joy and satisfaction. Let a song echo from the valley to the sky to declare the marvelous works of God so that we don’t easily forget when the storms come. Let the lost hear the words of the Gospel shouted so loudly that it cuts through the darkness and draws them to the truth that Jesus saves.

Don’t just let life happen to you today. Get out in front of it with worship and adoration, with thanksgiving and praise. Sing to the Lord a new song and watch what he does. About this Plan

Prestonwood Worship - Songs Of The People

The Psalms are full of rich truth and deep emotion. The writers didn’t ignore the world around them or try to pretend their problems weren’t real. Instead, they drew from the truth they knew about God (his words, his ways, his character) to shape their worship and worldview. We have the privilege and joy of drawing from this well of truth to encourage our own souls today.
