Real Hope: Weariness

DAY 3 OF 5

How Do We Grow Weary?

I was speaking with a friend recently who was not doing so well. The constant, demanding juggle of life with a young family and ministry had taken its toll. They had grown weary of life, weary of pursuing God. This faith journey in a broken and challenging world had come to a halt. Prompted by the Spirit of God, I did my best to simply be a listening ear and not offer any advice (a skill I wish I’d learnt earlier in my marriage!).

As I reflected on the conversation, the questions that lingered in my mind were, ‘In the pursuit of God, how does one grow weary?’ If God is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, and overflowing with loyallove and faithfulness, then surely He will not allow us to grow weary in following Him, or will He?

In this fast-paced, instant world we live in, are we more susceptible to growing weary as Christ-followers? It seems like the ways of the world are growing further away from the ways of God. In our pursuit of Him, I wonder if the things we are unable to let go of and the principles we are unable to unlearn cause us to fall and question our purpose. Are we holding on to too much, trying to control the outcomes, and finding ourselves out of steam?

If you’re growing weary, then be encouraged because when we get to the end of ourselves, that is when we truly find ourselves in Him. ‘But He (Jesus) said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness’ (2 Corinthians 12:9a NIV).

About this Plan

Real Hope: Weariness

At times, life can be hard and full of twists and turns. Unexpected events, difficult situations, pandemics, relationships, and the daily grind can sometimes lead to a weariness beyond tired or exhausted. A weariness that caffeine and endorphins can’t fix. It’s a soul weariness. We hope in this plan that your soul will be nourished, your spirit renewed, and your heart filled.
