Evangelism: Helping You Answer the Tough QuestionsSample
You may be asking, “So how do I get started? I know that I am called by God to live boldly and to shine brightly, but I don’t know how.”
Let’s dig into that because information without application doesn’t do anyone any good.
If you are motivated and ready to share Jesus with others by answering their questions, where should you start?
- Ask God to bring you opportunities and give you great discernment. Put this on your prayer list. Ask God to give you opportunities to share Jesus with others. Praying this way keeps it at the front of your mind, and it also invites God to divinely lead you to people who need an introduction to Jesus.
- Keep your eyes open. Every day you cross paths with people who need a smile, an encouraging word, or a kind gesture. Train yourself to offer what you can in that regard, always looking for the people whose responses indicate they are open to a conversation.
- Ask questions. People who dominate conversations are not as good at personal evangelism as those who ask great questions. When you listen to someone’s story you have the opportunity to share Jesus in a very targeted and meaningful way. When you are responding to information someone just shared with you, it feels more personal, more kind, and it will always be more effective.
- Be intentional. I trained myself in evangelism when I was young by setting aside time to go on the streets with my youth group. We looked for opportunities to encourage people, to discover what their concerns were, and what their life was like. The more I did it, the better I got at it. The less afraid I became.
I grew up knocking on doors and starting conversations on the streets, but times have changed. Now, the internet offers those opportunities. Social media feeds are the doors we can knock on. We have a team of hundreds of online volunteers who share their faith online and we are seeing hundreds of people a day say “yes” to Jesus.
