Do Not Be Ashamed

DAY 8 OF 12

Do not be ashamed of your looks or appearance

“You formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” (Psalm 139:13-14)

We humans tend to focus on outward appearance. Many feel the pressure of others making judgments on their looks, or they don’t like their own appearance themselves. This makes them ashamed.

Let’s see what the Bible has to say about this. First of all, God does not look on outward appearance but on the heart. This should be our focus as well! We should never judge others on their looks.

The second lesson the Bible teaches us, is that God has wonderfully made every single individual. The prophet Isaiah says: “O Lord, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand” (Isaiah 64:8). God has made us as He, in His infinite wisdom, deemed right. This even includes what we would call “physical defects”, for God rebukes Moses, “Who has made man's mouth? Who makes him mute, or deaf, or seeing, or blind? Is it not I, the Lord?” (Exodus 4:11).

If you face physical impairments yourself, that can be a real struggle! But you should never feel ashamed about your appearance. Others don’t have the right to make judgments, since God has created you wonderfully. Be assured that you are beautiful in His eyes!

About this Plan

Do Not Be Ashamed

Feelings of shame can have an enormous impact on your life. Sometimes these feelings are justified, but often they are not, for example when you feel ashamed of your faith in Jesus. This reading plan presents some important Biblical truths about this topic and shows you why a child of God does not need to be ashamed in front of the Lord God or in front of other people.
