The Antidote to AnxietySample
Pursuing a God-Sized Purpose
God calls all of us to do impactful things in this lifetime.
In her book The Hiding Place, Corrie ten Boom shares her family's daring story of hiding Jews in their home during the Holocaust of World War II. They helped hundreds escape the Nazis at great personal cost. When the Nazis eventually caught them, she was sent to the Ravensbrück concentration camp. However, to Corrie, it was worth the price because of the God-sized call on her life. The ten Boom family carefully followed a plan to hide their Jewish friends. An architect even built a secret room equipped with a buzzer that warned them to hide when danger was at the doorstep. This family fulfilled their God-given purpose!
In today's guiding verse, Jesus teaches us about planning. It's a vitally important lesson because God has given each one of us purposeful work to do. But as the life of Corrie ten Boom shows us, rarely are those God-given purposes easy to achieve.
To build something bigger than ourselves requires intentionality.
I want to encourage you to pray hard about what God is calling you to accomplish on this earth. What are some of your God-sized dreams? What are your plans to pursue them? Now, trust me, I know this can feel daunting. However, as important as planning is, it's equally important to understand where our plans actually come from. They're from the Giver of the plans themselves: God!
The Apostle Paul took the pressure off our shoulders in Ephesians 2:10 when he wrote, “For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.” When we meet God in planning for what is ahead, we are met with "good works" that are already laid out for us. Our job is simply to hear from God and follow His lead.
Psalm 37:23 tells us, “The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, And he delights in his way.” Be encouraged this week. Your steps are directed by God. He delights in helping you accomplish your purpose in life.
As you engage with God’s word:
- What God-sized purpose am I actively working toward?
- What is God saying to me?
- What do I need to do about it?
After you reflect on these questions, bring everything to God in prayer.
