The Gospel for Every Person

DAY 5 OF 5

Do you long to experience the presence of God more fully in your life?

The Bible teaches us that there are many different ways we can experience God's presence. Take a moment to read one example found in Matthew 28:18-20:

All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Did you notice that in verse 20, Jesus promises us that his presence will be with us always? Did you also notice that this promise is linked to the mission he gives?

First, Jesus commissions us to go, share the gospel, baptize, and teach. Then he says, ’and surely my presence will be with you always’. The promise of presence is connected to the mission of his people.

God is on the move. He is on a mission to reach every person with the gospel. Could it be that you are not experiencing God in the way that you desire because while you are waiting around to experience God, he is on the move?

God is on the move. He is fulfilling his mission in the world. Part of the grand invitation of the gospel for us is to join him in the mission by sharing the good news with others.

Many believers know that God has called them to share the good news with other people. Many believers also struggle to know how they are to share the gospel.

  • Are we to hand out fliers on street corners?
  • Are we to stand on a box in public spaces and preach?
  • Are we to invite people to church?
  • Are we to become influencers on social media?
  • Are we to invite people to an evangelistic service?
  • Are we to go door to door in our neighbourhood?
  • Are we to simply let our lives and actions be an example of Christ?

We learn from the New Testament that there is no one answer. Many people in Acts shared the gospel in different ways with different people. Likewise, today the gospel is being shared and received in a multitude of ways all across the globe. There is no one way that you are to share the good news, but rather a variety of ways.

Today we want to invite you to meditate on the different images of evangelism given to us in Scripture. As you meditate on these images, try and appreciate the different ways God may use you to share the good news with others.

  1. Fishing (Luke 5:10)
  2. Farming (Mark 4:1-20)
  3. A Harvester (Matthew 9:35-38)
  4. Witnesses (Acts 1:8)
  5. Searchers (Luke 15)
  6. Parents (1 Corinthians 4:15)
  7. Ambassadors (2 Corinthians 5:20)

Each of these images gives us a different paradigm to understand the role of the Gospel being shared through us. What would it look like for you to be a fisher? What would it look like for you to be an ambassador? A witness of the good news in your life?

God has designated the power of the gospel message to be unleashed through you into the lives of others.

Application

Read today's Scripture passages, meditating on the imagery and asking the Holy Spirit to empower you to partner with God in sharing the good news with others.
