A SACRIFICIAL LIFE
READ
“You, my brothers and sisters, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the flesh; rather, serve one another humbly in love. For the entire law is fulfilled in keeping this one command: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’”—Galatians 5:13–14 (NIV)
REFLECT
Think about your daily routine. How much time do you spend thinking about and meeting your own needs? Now reflect back on Jesus’ command: to “love your neighbor as yourself.”
What would change about your day if you loved those around you as much as you loved yourself? Today, find a way to serve someone whether you know them or not, whether it seems uncomfortable or inconvenient. Do something that will genuinely bless them, and spend time praying for them.
PRAY
Jesus, thank You for loving me and making me free. Help me see how I put myself before others and how to love those around me in the same way You love me. I invite You to open my eyes and soften my heart towards people who need to know You. Help me to be courageous and quickly act on opportunities to be generous so they may see You in me. Amen.
FOR THE FAMILY
DISCUSS
- How much of your thoughts would you say are about yourself? Why do you think Jesus told us to love our neighbor as ourselves?
- How would your day look different if you loved and served those around you as much as you loved yourself?
PRAY
Jesus, thank You for being our wonderful Savior! You have freed us from the power of sin and death. The darkness cannot stand against the power of Your light, so I ask You to help me to walk in the light. Help me to serve and love the people around me because You have freed me! Help me to share this good news with others so they can walk in freedom, too. I want to be a light for You Lord. Amen.
