[Life of David] From Shepherd to King Sample
Ask questions
Imagine you are in a foreign country on a road trip. Suddenly, you turn left and there is a crossroad. Your map is not clear about what road you should take. You have two options. Should you choose a random road, or ask the people who know the place what road is the correct one? Which one is the safer option? Taking the time to ask will be an easy decision, and may lead you to the place you’re looking for.
We are in the same situation throughout our life. We must make decisions all the time, but many of our decisions are made randomly. The only way to measure the effectiveness of our choice is its result. As a leader and influencer, many eyes are on us all the time, even when we are not aware of this. The decisions we make are models for others.
King David proved that asking God for guidance is the safer way to go. We read, in the Bible, how David inquired of the Lord, “Should I attack the Philistines?” David was used to doing this, to inquiring of God. He learned to wait until the answer arrived. On some occasions the answer was, “Go, attack;” on others, it was “Wait until I give you a sign and a strategy.” In all these moments, we see that God was taking part in the battle with David and that David needed to trust God all the time. It didn’t matter if the answer was, “Go or stop;” God was leading his people.
We are in the same position as David. We must know the Lord and learn to trust in Him in all circumstances. If we are looking to follow His guidance, no matter the answer, it will be the right one. As leaders, we must learn to inquire of God about the way to follow or the decision to make. It does not matter how simple or complex the issue may be. If we must change our workplace, choose a university, or go with some friend to a party, He will lead us to the best answer and the best option for us. Sometimes we will receive a yes, sometimes we will receive a no, and sometimes we will receive, “Wait, because I am going to do something amazing for you.”

About this Plan
Many of us feel sometimes like the whole world is against us. But are things really as we see them? David went on a journey from being a shepherd boy to being anointed, king. Along the way God prepared him to be the great leader he was intended to be. Let’s position ourselves in a place of surrender, keep our eyes on the Lord and follow his lead too!
