Why Go to Church?

DAY 5 OF 13

The church is a place to worship

“I will give thanks to the Lord with my whole heart, in the company of the upright, in the congregation….” (Psalm 111:1)

Church services are excellent opportunities to worship together. As Stuart Townend puts it in his song about Psalm 133: “With one voice we’ll sing to the Lord, And with one heart we’ll live out his word.” Singing together, praising God with our voices and music, is a great way to express our thankfulness and our love towards our heavenly Father. He is worthy of our praise!

The book of Psalms is a collection of songs. Some are very personal, but many are intended to be sung “in the company of the upright, in the congregation”. Throughout the ages, Christians have sung these old songs, and composed new ones based on their own experiences with God.

Worshiping together helps us to focus on the great, permanent, objective truths about God; to look beyond our personal temporary hardships or joy. One day, we can join in with the “great multitude that no one could number, from every nation, from all tribes and peoples and languages” to sing God’s praise: “Blessing and glory and wisdom and thanksgiving and honor and power and might be to our God forever and ever!” (Revelation 7:9, 12). Till then, we can “practice” together in church!

About this Plan

Why Go to Church?

“I believe in God in my own way, I don’t need a church. Can’t I just worship God in the comfort of my own home or out in nature?” These thoughts are common in our modern world. But there is blessing being part of the body of Christ; join us and explore some reasons why Christians should definitely be joined to a community of believers.
