Biblical Success - Running the Race of Life - Raising the Bar

DAY 4 OF 4

After the “Seek first” portion of Matthew 6:33 there is a promise, “And ALL these things will be given to you.” These things refer back to verse 25 that begins “Therefore I say to you do not worry about your life…” another clear statement of Jesus.

Many years ago I had a magnetic placard stuck on the dashboard of my car that quoted Matthew 6:33 “Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness and all these things shall be added unto you,” We sang it as a chorus in church. At that point in my life, I was a late-born Christian trying to learn the way of our Lord and to imprint His Word in my mind, and the concept of this verse, and its promise has been a light to my life path.

To put Jesus and the way of the Father first in my life, to think of things above, and to live on earth with the eternal perspective of life as my North Star and guide has been my hope for 48 years.

Have I done so perfectly? No way. Are you kidding? Of course not, I’m human and a man. I describe my journey as sort of bouncing off the walls of the narrow path. Not leaving it altogether, but allowing distraction or sin move me off-center from time to time. Only a loving Savior and His Word has kept me from falling off. Just like the Good Shepherd that He is Jesus has never let me get too far off the path. And now, looking back from nearly 50 years of trusting in Him, I can only say I have never lacked any good thing and God has done through my life things that I could never have imagined or done in my own strength, and that taking Jesus literally at His word is the best decision I have ever made.

I had another magnet that said, “God said it, I believe it, That settles it.” I know many will say that is just too simplistic, too radical and perhaps it is but I am content to press on trusting that it is not.

These verses in Matthew 6 are some of our Lord’s clearest teachings, and they always lead us to questions that will require us to look to Him for personal answers. Let us seek Him while He may be found, in His Word and His Spirit day by day. www.themostimportanthour.com .
