Seek Truth

DAY 1 OF 4

Seek truth

It’s hard to know what to do when you don’t know what is true. I felt that way when COVID first hit. As the globe was scrambling to figure out what COVID was and how it worked, I laced up my shoes for some needed exercise. But as I trotted down my usual path, coming straight toward me was . . . a human! What should I do? Hold my breath as I run past her? Stand on a stranger’s lawn so she can walk past with a six-foot buffer? I wasn’t sure because it’s hard to know what to do when you don’t know what is true.

The same thing applies when your friend feels an attraction to her same sex. Or when one YouTube video tells you to pray the rosary and another tells you the rosary is wrong. Or when you’re trying to find a good church, but the churches in town don’t say the same thing. It’s hard to know what to do when you don’t know what is true.

Jesus once prayed to his Father, “Your word is truth” (John 17:17). In a world of feelings, emotions, opinions, traditions, partisan spins, man-made traditions, incomplete data, and conflicting sources, Jesus knew where to find a solid source of truth—the Word of his Father.

Few things in life matter more than making the time to seek the truth passionately through a dedicated study of God’s Word. Because once God helps you figure out what is true, you’ll know exactly what to do.
