DAY 4 OF 7

The (un)Natural Mom from Palm Beach

Imagine yourself in a convertible driving down Beach Road somewhere in California, Florida, or the south of France, wherever you imagine the ideal beach vacation spot to be. Can you imagine it without palm trees? People with this personality are the ones we can’t imagine celebrating life without.

They usher in the sun and the fun. My twin brother is such a jovial soul. We simply can’t have family celebrations without him. We have flown him in on occasion in the same way resort developers import Florida palm trees to the heart of Nevada.

Palm trees do not change significantly as they grow. The lower fronds dry up and the trunks grow taller, but the waving treetops stay the same. People with this temperament keep their childlikeness too. They are grown-up kids who help us remember how to let our hair down. Their sense of humor can sometimes leave us gasping for breath. The children in them connect with the children they are raising and can occasionally make Palms forget to be the adult in the house.

The coconuts these wonderful trees produce are known for their variety of uses in high-fat-low-carb cooking, sweet-smelling tanning oils (the ultimate fragrance of leisure), and rich skin-care products. There are wax palms, sugar palms, wood palms, and acai-berry palms. Everything for a romantic weekend can be harvested from them, from the wax for scented candles and the vegetables for hearts-of-palm salad to luxurious bath oils, chocolate-covered dates, and Pindo-palm wine. This makes a palm tree the perfect metaphor for the personality type that thrives on the sensual and exotic wonders of life and that strives to spoil others with special treats.

Age plays a part in how our temperament is displayed. Palm Trees will become less whimsical and self-centered every year. Life will do that to her naturally. If you are an older Palm Tree, you’ll likely recognize some of these characteristics as traits you once had but no longer display.

You will wish these women showed more depth of character, but you’ll also feel sympathetic, knowing that others sometimes underestimate you as well. Perhaps you may miss your more carefree years, when your biggest problem was discovering that you forgot to paint your nails!

The Palm Tree temperament corresponds well with the sanguine temperament and also with the personality type I (influential, inspiring, interactive) of the DiSC profile.
