Jacob's experience was unique, and yet it tells us something about God. He actually wants to encounter us, to wrestle with us, even if it hurts. God is prepared to meet us where we are, in the middle of what we are going through, to pronounce blessing - although what that means in our context may differ from what we expect.

Something to think about while you are reading today’s passage:

This passage jumps us out of Genesis for a moment to consider what Jacob's experience might mean for us. Jesus is where humanity and God meet completely. He makes it possible for us to encounter God and demonstrates what that looks like. How can you see the wrestling that Jacob did represented in Christ?
